A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks Launch FLINT BASE Training Studio

A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks opened FLINT BASE to train first-year animators; MAPPA and Production I.G join as partners.

A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks have opened a new studio called FLINT BASE to train new animators, according to cbr.com. The facility is an academy-style program for first-year animators, replacing the one-on-one on-the-job teaching that has traditionally been used.

Animators at FLINT BASE still work as outsourced staff, performing in-between animation for major productions. MAPPA and Production I.G have joined the project as partners supporting the studio.

A-1 Pictures President Akira Shimizu said the aim is to find hidden talent after the main job-hunting season. He said long-term goals include securing in-between animation resources within Japan instead of relying heavily on overseas studios.

Shimizu identified balancing training with business as a major challenge, with the objective of creating a self-sustaining, profitable mechanism. The partners supporting FLINT BASE are intended to help address that balance.

Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is currently in production with no officially announced release date. Early reports point to a potential late 2027 release window.
