The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Debuts on Crunchyroll

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 is now available to watch on Crunchyroll, with Episode 49 marking the first episode of the new season. The premiere introduces a locust plague threatening the Li Empire, setting the stage for a new crisis.

In the opening scene, a mysterious hooded woman offers medicine to a despairing farmer. Later, Maomao learns from Chou-u that certain locusts precede a plague, hinting at the scale of the threat.

Maomao also discovers a book on birds at a bookshop that resembles volumes from Lady Shi's stronghold, suggesting someone smuggled them out. The find raises new questions as the season begins.

Background

At the end of Season 2, Consorts Gyokuyou and Lihua both gave birth to sons, giving the Emperor two heirs. Gyokuyou was made Empress, a decision some in the kingdom resent because she is a foreign woman from the West.

The Shi Clan was destroyed, and some fear a disaster would be seen as divine punishment for it. Maomao has been looking after Chou-u, a surviving Shi Clan child who lost his memories.
