Marvel's New Avengers #1 Puts Captain Marvel at 10% Power

Carol Danvers can no longer fly in Avengers #1, which reveals that she is operating at a fraction of her usual power.

Marvel Comics has launched a new era for the Avengers with Avengers #1, written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Marco Checchetto, according to Screen Rant. The issue features a new official line-up of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and opens with a major change for Carol Danvers: she reveals that she has lost her ability to fly.

Danvers is still largely invulnerable to harm, according to the issue, but she now feels pain. The reason behind her condition was set out earlier in Avengers: Armageddon #5, where Reed Richards explained that Captain Marvel is operating at ten percent of her usual power.

The new series also follows the aftermath of the nuclear explosion at Pletetsk, a storyline established before Avengers #1.

What Carol Can Still Do

Carol Danvers is no longer the energy-absorbing powerhouse readers have known. In earlier stories she could absorb and unleash immense energy and overwhelm Thor in her Binary form — abilities that sit far beyond the ten percent output Reed Richards described.

Avengers #1 by Zdarsky and Checchetto is available November 4 from Marvel Comics.
