Anno, Izubuchi Co-Direct Cosmoship Yamato √2199 Anime Film

A website opened on Tuesday to announce the feature-length anime film Cosmoship Yamato √2199. Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi are directing the film, which is being produced at Production I.G and Studio Khara.
Anno is credited for planning alongside Production I.G founder Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, who serves as production executive producer. Anno and Izubuchi are also credited for design works on the film. Shin Office Academy is presenting the project.
The announcement follows Anno's statement in October 2024, after the 50th anniversary screening for Space Battleship Yamato, that he and Studio Khara were producing a Yamato project with new anime footage. At that time, Anno said Khara had received license approvals from Yamato rights holders Voyager Holdings and Tohokushinsha Film Corporation, and Izubuchi, chief director of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 remake projects, confirmed his involvement.
Anno joined Production I.G's board of directors on August 21, 2025. The original Yamato anime's first television series premiered in October 1974, and the first animated Yamato film opened in 1977, earning 2.1 billion yen at the box office.
The current project in the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 remakes, Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199, began with the first film Kuro no Shinryaku in July. The final Rebel 3199 film will open in Japan on October 30.
