Kyoto-based studio Creative Freaks has been selected to lead production on the Sentinel 6 anime series, according to animenewsnetwork.com. The project, which was pitched to approximately two dozen animation studios before Creative Freaks was chosen, will feature former NBA player Michael Carter-Williams and NFL player Jamaal Williams as executive producers.
The series is currently planned to consist of 11 or 12 episodes, with each episode running for 30 minutes. The production is initially targeting an English-language release, while Bang Zoom! has been tapped to handle the reverse localization into Japanese.
The Sentinel 6 franchise was created in 2019 by Pat Stout and the late Asa Palmer through Sable Kudzu Entertainment LLC. LeSean Thomas wrote the pilot and is serving as a consulting producer.
Development on the project has been ongoing for several years. A Kickstarter campaign for a trailer launched in December 2021 and met its funding goal by January 2022, with the trailer, animated by Chase A Cloud Studio, released in December 2022. Michael Carter-Williams and Jamaal Williams fully funded the pilot for the show in 2025. Creative Freaks, founded in 2014, launched its animation production division in 2023.
