Marvel Reveals Bat-Like Beast Redesign for Midnight X-Men

At New York Comic-Con 2026, Marvel showed R.B. Silva's concept art for the Midnight Universe, including Emma Frost, Bishop and Shadow King.

Marvel unveiled concept art at New York Comic-Con 2026 showing a new bat-like design for Beast in its Midnight Universe, according to Screen Rant. The artwork, created by R.B. Silva, lead concept designer of Marvel's Midnight initiative, depicts Beast as a giant blue bat with large ears and glowing red eyes.

The art presents three versions of Beast, which differ in build, head shape and limbs. Concept designs for Emma Frost, Bishop and Shadow King were also revealed as part of the Midnight Universe rollout.

Midnight X-Men #1 is now available from Marvel Comics.

How Beast Has Changed Before

Beast debuted in 1963 as a slightly oversized, human-looking mutant with enlarged hands and feet. In 1972, his body underwent a massive mutation that gave him blue fur and a more ape-like appearance, and a later secondary mutation triggered by Sage altered his genetic code into a feline creature with lion-like facial features.

On screen, Kelsey Grammer played an older Hank McCoy with a classic humanoid blue-furred design in X-Men: The Last Stand, while X-Men: First Class introduced Nicholas Hoult's younger, more feral feline-looking Beast. That look evolved in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse into a more balanced Beast.
