Obocchama-kun Reborn Anime Announced for 2027

TV Asahi announced that Yoshinori Kobayashi's Obocchama-kun manga is getting a new television anime titled Obocchama-kun Reborn in 2027. A teaser promotional video and visual were also unveiled.

Chie Kōjiro is reprising the role of the protagonist Obocchama-kun from the original 1989 anime. The new anime is a joint production between Japan and India, with Green Gold Animation producing in cooperation with Shinei Animation and Sony Pictures Networks India.

The series will feature stories that were not adapted from the original manga, as well as new stories supervised by series creator Kobayashi.

The original 164-episode anime adaptation of Kobayashi's Obocchama-kun manga aired in Japan from 1989 to 1992. The original anime also aired on a children's channel in India and was dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

In September 2024, TV Asahi announced a new anime adaptation of the manga targeted for the Indian market, and it launched in 2025. That 2025 anime was carried out with Sony Pictures Networks India, with Shinei Animation producing the scenario under Kobayashi's supervision and animation production done in India. The 2025 series had 26 episodes, was targeted at children 6-11 years old, and aired on the Sony YAY! channel.

Kobayashi's manga serialized in Shogakukan's CoroCoro Comic magazine from 1986 to 1994, and Shogakukan published 24 compiled book volumes.
