Solo Leveling: Arise Debuts Velvet, Rakan's Successor, in New Webtoon
The Hunter Origin one-shot arrived on October 22 alongside a Go Gunhee backstory episode in the game's 2.5-year anniversary update.
A new Hunter Origin one-shot webtoon episode of Solo Leveling: Arise introducing Velvet, the successor to the Beast Monarch Rakan, was released on October 22, 2026, according to cbr.com. The episode shipped alongside a backstory episode for Go Gunhee as part of the game's 2.5-year anniversary update.
Velvet's origin story begins with her school being massacred by High Orcs led by Rakan, who spares her life. She later becomes a con artist, and is sent to rob a wealthy young man named Logan. Velvet refuses to kill him, and Logan dies saving her — a loss that drives her to massacre her attackers.
Rakan ultimately chooses Velvet as his successor and names her the next Monarch of Fangs, a title tied to his standing as King of the Beasts.
Where Rakan and his successors fit
Rakan's fate in the wider series was settled earlier: in Solo Leveling manhwa Chapter 162, Sung Jinwoo kills the Beast Monarch, who shows an instinctual fear of death in his final moments. During the Monarchs War Arc, the Beast Monarch effectively allowed the Frost Monarch to kill Sung Jinwoo.
Velvet is not the first to inherit Rakan's power. In Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Gray, a young wolf pup, gains Rakan's abilities and becomes the first Monarch Successor that Sung Suho meets.
