Netmarble Business Division Head Lee Jonghyuk has said that Sung Jinwoo will gain the ability to absorb the powers of the Monarchs in the upcoming game Solo Leveling: Karma, according to cbr.com. The detail came out in a new interview with the Netmarble executive.
Lee also said the developers initially planned for Jinwoo to gain powers from the Emissaries of the Itarim, but scrapped that idea in favor of the Monarchs.
Solo Leveling: Karma's storyline and lore were overseen by series creator Chugong, according to the same interview.
Why the Monarchs' Powers Matter
In Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo can extract the Shadow of almost anyone who has died and turn them into a Shadow Soldier, but he cannot extract the Shadows of divine beings such as the Monarchs, Rulers or Itarim. In Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Jinwoo later fights the Outer Gods.
