Ace Combat 8 Dev Apologises for Belkan War Pre-Order Confusion
Ace Combat 8 developer says Ace Combat Zero can't be released standalone on Steam due to licensing, apologises for pre-order bonus confusion.
The developer of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has issued a statement on Steam apologising for confusion over the Belkan War pre-order bonus. The studio said it is exploring possible solutions after players found that Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War was not available as a standalone title on Steam.
In the statement, the developer explained that Ace Combat Zero cannot currently be released as a standalone application on Steam due to licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations. It added that it is evaluating possible options, including discussions with platform partners, but cannot guarantee any changes.
The confusion arose after pre-orders of Ace Combat 8 included a copy of 2006's Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. Early adopters who received the bonus discovered it was not a standalone Steam release, prompting the developer's response.
Early access for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launched three days before the official release for Deluxe edition buyers who paid £75 / $90. The game's Steam user review rating initially dropped to Mixed and later recovered to Mostly Positive. The official launch is scheduled for 2nd October.
Eurogamer reported on the developer's statement.
