Anbernic reveals RG DDS, a dual-screen 3DS-style handheld

The clamshell RG DDS packs a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset, a 4.7-inch top screen and true 3x 3DS integer scaling. Pricing is still unknown.

Anbernic has revealed the RG DDS, a clamshell handheld with two screens, in a video teaser. The device is modelled after the Nintendo 3DS, according to gamesradar.com.

The RG DDS pairs a 4.7-inch top display running at 720 x 1200 with a 4-inch bottom panel at 960 x 720. Anbernic says the handheld supports true 3x 3DS display integer scaling.

Power comes from a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset. The unit also includes an integrated stylus on the left side, two full-sized recessed thumbsticks in place of a C-pad and C-stick nub, front-firing speakers, a 6,000mAh battery and a z-axis linear vibration motor.

Anbernic has not yet revealed pricing for the RG DDS, and no release date has been announced.

Part of a wider clamshell push

Anbernic previously released the RG DS handheld for around $100, and the company recently announced the RG DS Plus. Other dual-screen clamshell options include the Retroid Pocket Duo, the Ayn Thor and the MagicX Zero 40, which is priced at $75.
