Arrowhead Has No Plans for Helldivers 3, Says Pilestedt
Johan Pilestedt said a sequel would reset everything, while a continuation lets Helldivers 2 become a lifelong hobby for players.
Arrowhead Game Studios has no plans for a Helldivers 3 sequel, chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt said, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. Instead, a small team at the studio is prototyping its next, unannounced game, while about 95% of Arrowhead's roughly 150 staff continue to work on Helldivers 2.
Pilestedt said a distinct sequel would only make sense if it were different enough that both games could exist side by side. A sequel, he added, resets everything and forces players to start over, whereas a continuation can become a lifelong hobby.
Helldivers 2 remains active on PC: its Steam live player count stood at 47,097 at the time of writing.
Continuation over sequel
The discussion follows the studio's earlier shift from the original Helldivers, a top-down game, to Helldivers 2's third-person shooting with greater emphasis on physics and credible weapon handling.
