Artstorm Apologizes for Using Artist's Ekranoplan Design in Modern Warships

Artstorm said it used Alex Jay Brady's ekranoplan concept as a reference without clearance and will contact the artist to make things right.

Artstorm has apologized after admitting it used an ekranoplan design by concept artist Alex Jay Brady in Modern Warships as a reference without proper clearance. The studio issued the apology on X, saying it would contact Brady directly to make things right.

Brady said they did not give permission for the design to be used. They also described the in-game version as carrying over every detail from their original design aside from a swing wing.

The ekranoplan vehicle was added to Modern Warships shortly before the apology. It is sold through gacha spins equivalent to $50 to $100, or up to $700 to buy outright.

Rather than removing the ship, Artstorm said it would reach out to Brady to resolve the matter. Kotaku reported the studio's admission and apology.

Background

Brady first posted a design for an ekranoplan, a ground effect vehicle, in 2014. Modern Warships is published by Gaijin, the company also known for War Thunder.
