Baldur's Gate 3 Fans Build Their Own Expansions
Larian won't make more Baldur's Gate 3 expansions, so modders have released four custom campaigns since late July, with a fifth in development.
Larian Studios has said it will not produce new expansions for Baldur's Gate 3 or a Baldur's Gate 4. Since late July, modders have filled that gap themselves, releasing at least four substantial custom campaigns for the RPG.
The projects vary widely in scope. A Dream of Silence: ReVamped, built for the BG3 July Modathon 2026, is a six-hour story with four endings set in a nightmare version of Cazador's mansion. The Sunless Citadel is a linear dungeon crawl that does not yet have a camp system. Act Two Expansion adds the Chionthar Wilds region with more than 70 new items and 30 new fights. Dinner With Strahd features full voice acting for a self-contained encounter with a Dungeons & Dragons villain.
A fifth fan-made campaign is in development: Path to Menzoberranzan, a three-act story set one century after Baldur's Gate 2.
Why modders can go further than Larian's tools
Larian's official mod support does not allow full custom-campaign creation. The studio's editor ships with features disabled, including building new levels, writing new dialogue, and designing new combat encounters. Third-party tools such as Moonglasses remove those restrictions and allow access to developer mode.
All of these expansions require a PC install through Nexus Mods, and none are available on console at this time. Players should also note a known conflict: running A Dream of Silence: ReVamped alongside Dinner With Strahd can cause a glitch that swaps out some of Cazador's visuals.
