Borderlands Online fan revival enters playtesting with English localization
BLOL, the fan restoration of the China-only Borderlands Online MMO, is now playtesting in English, with 1,000 accounts created in its first four hours.
The fan revival of Borderlands Online, known as BLOL, has entered playtesting with an English localization, bringing the previously China-only MMO back online. According to GamesRadar, the project is now playable in English.
BLOL supports both online and offline play and is not monetized. EpicNNG said 1,000 accounts were created within the first four hours of the launch, and the project has since received a hotfix to upgrade its servers.
EpicNNG also stated that the project does not use generative AI.
Background
Borderlands Online shut down 11 years ago and only ever launched in China. In late April 2025, modder EpicNNG obtained a build of the game and began restoration efforts. EpicNNG said he would have stopped the project if Take-Two had asked, but the company never reached out.
