Capcom reports 11.77 million records leaked in CAPCOM ID breach

Capcom said passwords were illegally changed on 196 accounts and has reset them, adding that credit card data was not leaked.

Capcom has disclosed that unauthorized access to its online membership service CAPCOM ID resulted in the leak of 11,774,247 records worldwide, and that passwords were illegally changed on 196 accounts, according to 4gamer.net.

The leaked data includes email addresses, system-specific identifiers, dates of birth, gender, country or region and nicknames. Capcom said it has not confirmed that user-set passwords leaked, but the passwords for the 196 affected accounts have already been reset.

Credit card information was not included in the leaked data. Capcom said the necessary emergency measures have been completed and that CAPCOM ID services remain usable, with gameplay said to be unaffected.

The company is warning users not to access URLs or open attachments in suspicious emails that may impersonate Capcom. Dedicated inquiry desks have been set up for Japan, the Americas, EMEA and Asia/Oceania.
