Control Resonant Composer: Dylan's Theme Is Jesse's Theme Reversed

Petri Alanko says the sibling characters share musical roots, and a blended 'Sibling Theme' track appears in the game.

Petri Alanko, the composer of Control Resonant, has explained how the game's music was structured around the sibling characters Jesse and Dylan Faden. In an interview, Alanko said Dylan's theme song is essentially Jesse's theme played backwards, giving the two characters a shared musical origin.

Alanko said the siblings share the same theme because they share the same roots. He described Jesse's theme as a power theme, while Dylan's functions as a source of growth and appears in different harmonies across the game.

According to Alanko, Dylan's theme runs throughout Control Resonant and texturizes his path from nothing to a superhero. The soundtrack also includes a blended theme for both characters called "Sibling Theme."

Alanko said vocals were not used in "Sibling Theme" because of the large amount of voiceovers in the game. The end credits track, titled "The One I Once Knew," features vocals by Amelia Jones.

Shared roots from the original Control

The shared theme for Jesse and Dylan first appeared at a few points in the original Control, according to techradar.com, which reported Alanko's comments.
