Critical Role to co-publish ROCKBEASTS, a 90s rock RPG

Critical Role will co-publish LICHTHUND's ROCKBEASTS, a rock-and-roll management RPG set in an alternative 1990s America, launching on Steam in 2027.

Critical Role is moving further into game publishing. The company announced it will co-publish ROCKBEASTS, the next game from indie studio LICHTHUND, with a Steam launch planned for 2027.

ROCKBEASTS is a story-driven rock-and-roll management RPG set in an alternative 1990s America. Players take charge of an up-and-coming grunge band chasing stadium success, handling gig bookings, finances, equipment and rehearsals along the way.

The game mixes rhythm-based performance gameplay with RPG and choice-based systems, so what happens on stage and off it both feed into the band's trajectory.

Critical Role's voice cast will appear in ROCKBEASTS. Iggy Pop will also appear in a capacity the announcement did not specify.

The partnership follows Critical Role's earlier collaboration with AdHoc Studios on the comedy superhero game DISPATCH, which featured its co-founders and sold over 1 million copies in 10 days.
