Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures Developing Two Games

Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures is working on an open-world comedy and a dystopian sci-fi game about a rogue AI, he revealed in an interview.

Dan Houser is developing two video games at his company Absurd Ventures, he revealed in an interview with Variety. One is an open-world comedy, with more information promised in the next few months. The other is a dystopian sci-fi title about a video game development gone wrong and a rogue AI that discovered sentience.

Houser said he has not seen the 27-minute extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI presented by Netflix in August. He also said he avoids open-world games because he deconstructs them in real time.

Houser co-founded Rockstar Games and served as its head writer before leaving the company in 2020. He formally launched Absurd Ventures in 2023.

Absurd Ventures is building original IPs beginning with three worlds: A Better Paradise, American Caper and the Absurdaverse. The company is rolling out graphic novels, comics, fiction podcasts, books and animated series alongside the planned games.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches Nov. 19.
