decomp.dev Founder Announces Phased Shutdown of Decompilation Site
Indexing and new project submissions are already disabled, but existing project pages and historical data will remain available.
decomp.dev, a community site that tracks game decompilation projects, will end its activities in stages, the site's founder @encounter announced on October 20, 2026, according to gamespark.jp. Indexing and new project submissions have already been disabled.
Existing project tracking, individual project pages and historical data will continue to be provided during the wind-down, the founder said.
@encounter also stated that decomp.dev was never open source and that its rights are reserved, adding that no copying is permitted.
Concerns over AI misuse
The community has operated since 2024 as a place to share decompilation information for studying how games work while respecting the original works. In its explanation, the community said AI-based decompilation once involved obvious problems and misconduct and cost far more per task once fixes were included, but that recent AI models have become capable enough to change that situation.
It cited AI-generated completed versions presented as offshoots of in-progress projects, and unauthorized ports based on decompilation results, as examples of misuse.
