EA confirms Project Evergreen, a new Sims game, is in development

Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new Sims experience, carrying the working name "Project Evergreen," is in development. The title was listed among the games the publisher said it will continue working on, according to screenrant.com.

The mention came in an internal email from EA chief studio officer Cam Weber and chief operating officer David Tinson. According to the email, Project Evergreen will give the team more time to reach the full potential and vision for the game. EA did not share a launch date or any further details about the project.

The same email set out a broader slate of ongoing titles: continued Battlefield games, heavier investment in Apex Legends, further Star Wars Jedi, Marvel's Iron Man, EA Sports FC, Project Gridiron, the return of Fight Night and more Skate.

Background

The Sims franchise launched 26 years ago and has four mainline entries developed by Maxis and published by EA. The Sims 4 arrived in September 2014.

EA was taken private by an investor consortium led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and earlier this year the company carried out layoffs of around 400 staff across its gaming divisions, shut down BioWare and canceled Mass Effect 5. EA said it had taken a hard look at its business strategies since the buyout. Earlier reports had suggested Project Lotus would be the next The Sims project.
