EA Pauses Project Lotus, Prioritizes New Sims Project in Restructuring
The publisher is shifting The Sims resources to Project Evergreen as part of a restructuring that also closes BioWare and cuts 400 jobs.
Electronic Arts has paused development on the game codenamed Project Lotus and will prioritize Project Evergreen for The Sims, the company said in an internal email from executives Cam Weber and David Tinson, according to Kotaku. The move is part of a wider restructuring at the publisher that includes 400 layoffs and the closure of BioWare.
EA said the shift gives the Sims team more time to reach the project's "full potential and vision." The company framed its Lifestyle division, which houses The Sims and skate., around the long-term potential of both franchises.
The publisher did not share a release window or platform details for Project Evergreen.
An earlier Sims project remains in the background
Project Rene was initially announced as an apparent successor to The Sims 4 and was revealed to be free-to-play. Around 2024, it was seemingly downgraded to a mobile game. Sims Community reported that Project Evergreen might be the new name for Project X, a single-player game separate from Rene.
The Sims 4 launched in 2014 and later went free-to-play.
