Electronic Arts shuts down BioWare, cancels new Mass Effect

The closure is part of 400 job cuts across EA, and the in-development Mass Effect game was still in early development.

Electronic Arts has shut down BioWare and cancelled the Mass Effect project the studio was working on, as part of 400 job cuts across the company. The closure was reported by gamesindustry.biz.

The new Mass Effect game had been described as being in early development. A first trailer for it was shown almost six years before the closure, according to the facts surrounding the shutdown.

BioWare released a run of acclaimed games between 1998 and 2014, including Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, released in 2014, was BioWare's last critical and commercial hit, more than a decade before the closure.
