Epic Games has reportedly delayed its unannounced Star Wars and Marvel crossover shooter, with staff told to use an 'AI first' production pipeline.

Epic Games has reportedly delayed its unannounced Star Wars and Marvel crossover shooter, according to Eurogamer. The title had reportedly been expected to launch in March 2027.

According to the report, Epic has told staff to adopt an "AI first" production pipeline and to use AI tools such as Anthropic's Claude to finish the game. A game director reportedly told developers in an internal message that there would be "no more hand-written code" and that art should be "generated with full AI workflows."

Epic's communications director, Jake Jones, said the company is "embracing AI-accelerated development." The game remains unannounced by Epic.

Disney partnership and Epic's finances

A few years back, The Walt Disney Company acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games, and the two agreed to partner on a games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite. More recently, it was reported that senior Disney executives were interested in buying Epic Games outright.

Less than a year ago, Epic laid off over 1,000 employees, and CEO Tim Sweeney said the company was spending significantly more than it was making.
