Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy Brave Exvius back in a new form. Final Fantasy Resonance is an upgraded adaptation of the 2015 mobile game, and it is set to launch on virtually all major modern gaming platforms on October 22.
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, we played a preview build for about 30 minutes. The game is the first official 2D-HD title in the Final Fantasy series, giving its world a crisp, layered look that fits the classic pixel style.
The narrative centers on Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as they try to stop Veritas of the Dark from destroying elemental crystals. Players can also summon Visions of characters from past Final Fantasy games, including Cloud Strife, Terra Branford, and Cecil Harvey.
According to Den of Geek, the preview build showed a game that understands its roots while updating them for modern platforms. Final Fantasy Resonance is not the only Final Fantasy project on the horizon: Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in April 2027.
