Fortnite Swaps 'Meow' Artwork After Fans Spot Gemini AI Watermark

Epic Games replaced the in-game cover art for the Ironmouse, Sleeping Forest & HalaCG track, but the Gemini watermark remains on Spotify.

Epic Games has replaced the in-game artwork for the Fortnite music track "Meow" after players spotted a Google Gemini AI watermark in the original version, according to IGN. The track is credited to Ironmouse, Sleeping Forest and HalaCG.

The watermark appeared in the bottom right corner of the original artwork. It has since been swapped for an alternate version that carries no Gemini marking.

The same watermark is still visible on the track's artwork on Spotify, where the original image remains in use.

Older AI Art Questions

Epic Games added "Meow" to Fortnite last month. The watermark went largely unnoticed until last weekend, when it was discovered and discussed on social media and Reddit.

Fans had previously flagged an in-game poster showing a nine-toed character in a hammock as a questionable example of AI-generated artwork in Fortnite. A recent official developer video showed Epic Games experimenting with AI during the conceptual phase for characters and in-game locations. Elsewhere, Call of Duty drew criticism over a six-fingered Santa artwork, and over the weekend Disney said its rumored interest in buying Epic Games was not something it was planning to act on.
