Fortnite Update Adds Pirate Chest, Loading Screen Teasing One Piece
Data miners found a pirate chest in Fortnite's Oct. 15 files, alongside a loading screen showing Jonesy on a barrel, echoing One Piece.
The final update for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 went live on Oct. 15, adding the last of this year's Fortnitemares content ahead of Halloween, according to Polygon. Data miners digging through the update's files found a pirate chest that is believed to be tied to the season's closing event.
The same update includes a new lore loading screen showing Jonesy and Hope falling through a crack in reality alongside the pirate chest, with Jonesy seated on a barrel. The detail echoes One Piece, in which Luffy emerges from a barrel washed up on a beach in chapter 2 of the manga.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 ends Nov. 1, with a mini-season launching the same day.
Rumors Point to a One Piece Theme
For the past few weeks, rumors have led players to believe this year's mini-season will be based on One Piece. The discovery of the chest and the barrel in the loading screen has added to that speculation, though no theme has been officially confirmed.
Epic releases a mini-season between chapters to help players transition. Last year's mini-season was based on The Simpsons, turning the map into Springfield and offering cel-shaded themed cosmetics.
