Shift away from ICAN voting
Previously, the GDCA used a nomination-based voting system through the International Choice Awards Network (ICAN), an invitation-only panel of more than 500 creators, developers and industry members.
Earlier in 2026, the GDC Festival of Gaming announced changes for 2027, including a new Business Hall at Moscone West, three new passes, dedicated options for indie developers and start-ups, and a revised event schedule. GDC VP of content strategy Mark DeLoura previously told GamesIndustry.biz that GDC 2027 is about giving people more choices in how they participate at the show.
