Gothic 1 Remake adds photo mode, Marvin Mode and modkit in free update

THQ Nordic Japan released the free "Feature Update #1" for Gothic 1 Remake on October 30, 2026, adding a photo mode, an official cheat mode and first-stage mod support, according to gamespark.jp.

The photo mode can be opened from the pose menu or with the L key on PC. The update also introduces "Marvin Mode," which players activate by typing "MARVIN" after pressing Esc and switch off by typing "42."

Players can now change the hairstyle and tattoos of the protagonist, the Nameless Hero. The patch further adds the ability to sit on benches to wait for time, improves crafted weapon performance and adds sound-based reactions. It also fixes bugs, including one triggered by equipping two of the same ring and journal entries that were not unlocking correctly.

Modkit BETA and Steam sale

The Modkit BETA publishes the script language specification and the game's script sources, with mods shareable on the official Steam Workshop. A mod management screen is accessible through Steam launch options.

A Gothic series sale runs on Steam until November 6, with Gothic 1 Remake at 25% off for 4,867 yen and other series titles at 80% off. The "ArcaniA + Gothic Pack," a bundle of six older titles, is also 80% off at 1,100 yen.

Gothic 1 Remake is available for PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S, priced at 6,490 yen on Steam. A PS5 version (Japanese download edition) is scheduled for release on November 24, 2026. The game is a full remake of the 2001 RPG Gothic.
