Rockstar cut grocery restocking from Grand Theft Auto 6
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said some realistic systems were simplified or removed where they did not improve gameplay.
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said some of Grand Theft Auto 6's realistic mechanics have been simplified or removed where the studio judged they did not improve gameplay, in an interview with Love magazine.
Among the systems cut was a grocery shopping and refrigerator restocking feature. Vehicle refueling remains in the game, but is built around a quick-time event designed to take only a moment.
Eating and visiting restaurants are still part of the game. Food affects health, and health in turn affects activities in the open world.
Rockstar has previously said that NPCs in Grand Theft Auto 6 will react to suspicious behavior, and that the protagonists Jason and Lucia can kayak, scuba dive and work out at gyms. Nelson had also joked that the refueling interaction is quick enough that players should not have much reason to complain, while noting the studio would have to see how people respond.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
