Rockstar Details GTA 6 Wanted System, Shops and Dual Protagonists

Rob Nelson's IGN interview covers hollowed-out Wanted stars, location-specific hairstyles and cars locked until players progress.

Rockstar Games has released new details about Grand Theft Auto 6 through a long-form interview with co-studio head Rob Nelson on IGN, conducted during a 30-minute playthrough of the game, according to polygon.com.

The interview covers several systems. Some parked cars in the game will not be accessible until the player progresses further, and shops around the map offer exclusive goodies, including location-specific hairstyles. Cash carries more weight than in earlier entries: Rockstar said players cannot advance the story until they collect enough money. Quests generally have multiple solutions.

The Wanted system also changes. Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces hollowed-out Wanted stars, which signal that authorities have been alerted to a crime but do not know who committed it; a single full Wanted star is easy to lose. Dual protagonists Jason and Lucia can stay together for more firepower or split up to reduce heat, and NPCs react to the player's presence by asking a friendly question, walking away or turning aggressive.

Rockstar had previously described a large variety of NPCs with extensive dialogue options, with claims that players can stand in one place for up to 20 minutes without hearing repeated lines. The game was also previously shown in a Netflix preview of a mission with multiple routes outside a tower block.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
