GTA 6 preorders 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2, Sensor Tower says

Sensor Tower estimates 6.08 million digital preorders in the US as of October 13, worth about $594 million, with 74% on PlayStation.

Grand Theft Auto VI had been preordered an estimated 6.08 million times as of October 13, generating about $594 million in revenue, according to an analysis published by Sensor Tower and reported by GamesIndustry.biz. At the same point from launch, that figure runs 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's preorder numbers.

Sensor Tower compared the game's preorder trajectory with data for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The firm says most Grand Theft Auto VI preorders were for the $100 ultimate edition.

Platform split leans heavily toward PlayStation: 74% of preorders were placed on PlayStation and 26% on Xbox, per Sensor Tower's estimates.

The analysis covers only digital preorders in the United States and does not include boxed releases, so it is not a complete picture of the game's global preorder performance.

Older Call of Duty benchmarks

Modern Warfare 2's preorders were more than double those of Diablo 4 at 45 days from launch, and the title went on to post the biggest opening weekend for Call of Duty at $800 million. In 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became the biggest launch in the series' history and was the first Call of Duty title to launch day and date on Game Pass.

Earlier in 2026, GamesIndustry.biz asked analysts to predict Grand Theft Auto VI's first-year sales, with estimates ranging from 30 million to more than 50 million.
