GUNBOAT-8 Dev Finds Demo's Longest Player Cheated for 19 Hours

A developer says the top demo playtime of 19 hours 47 minutes came from a player who used cheats, with 150 legendary items in a single run.

A developer of the roguelike game GUNBOAT-8 has posted on Reddit that the demo player with the longest recorded playtime, 19 hours 47 minutes, had been using cheats throughout, according to automaton-media.com.

The developer reported that in one run the player held 150 legendary items, although normally only one or two can be obtained. The same player spent 1000 times the amount of in-game currency they had earned, and stayed in the first shop for 30 minutes buying items before continuing.

The developer confirmed three players suspected of cheating in the demo data. No evidence was found that developer tools had been accidentally included in the demo, and the save-data tampering detection did not trigger.

The developer added that since GUNBOAT-8 is a single-player game, players are free to play however they like.

Demo and release plans

GUNBOAT-8 is developed by Orange Acorn Games and is scheduled for release on PC via Steam in Q4 2026, with a demo currently available. The demo includes a feature that collects play data if the player consents.
