The game casts players as a 17-year-old aspiring artist living in Shenyang, in Northeast China. Its investigation system is built around combining any two thoughts in the protagonist's notebook to form insights.
The developers wrote individual responses for every possible combination of observations, including pairings that do not advance the investigation.
Artist Calista Antonio created more than 100 hand-drawn sketches for the in-game notebook.
