Horii teases mystery behind Portopia sequel title

Yuji Horii said players will understand the 'sequel' marker and the subtitle 'Burial of Oblivion' once they play the adventure game, due March 4, 2027.

Yuji Horii, original creator and general director of the upcoming adventure game that continues the Portopia serial murder mystery series, posted a teaser comment on X about the title, gamespark.jp reported. The post quotes a post by Gozo Shiozaki.

In the comment, Horii writes that the culprit is Yas and asks whether that is really so, a line that suggests hidden truths or some kind of change. He also said players will likely understand why the title carries the word for "sequel" and what the subtitle, which translates as "Burial of Oblivion," means once they have played.

The game is set for release on March 4, 2027, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. The download version costs 4,800 yen, the standard package version 7,678 yen and the limited package version 9,878 yen, all tax included.

The new title is a full remake of the original Portopia serial murder mystery game, with Horii credited as original creator and general director and five newly added investigation files told from different perspectives.

The original game was released for the PC-6001 in June 1983 and for the Family Computer in November 1985.
