Jagex Cancels RuneScape Reignited Two Weeks After Reveal

Jagex scrapped the RuneScape game mode on October 15, saying the decision followed player feedback, and set a 10-day free trial from December 2.

Jagex canceled the RuneScape game mode RuneScape Reignited on October 15, less than two weeks after it was announced. The studio said the decision was a direct response to player feedback.

Creative director Mod Ryan announced the cancellation in an official YouTube video and blog post on October 15. IGN reported the news.

Jagex also outlined other RuneScape plans: a 10-day free trial running from December 2 to December 12, giving access to Members worlds and content. The trial is open to new characters or any character that has not been in membership since June 2.

The studio is releasing the Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey. RuneScape Plugins remain scheduled to launch on Monday, October 19, and Jagex says its 2027 roadmap for RuneScape is continuing.

Background

RuneScape Reignited was revealed on October 3 during RuneFest 2026, letting new and returning players start with a clean slate. At the same event, RuneScape 4 was announced as a next-gen version of the MMO with no release date shared. A vocal portion of the playerbase argued Reignited would fracture the community and that developers should focus on ongoing updates instead.
