Gaming Factory Reveals JDM: Ph4ntom Driver for PC

The open-world racing spin-off pits cars against yokai in an otherworld Guntama Prefecture, with no release date announced.

Gaming Factory announced JDM: Ph4ntom Driver, an open-world racing game in development for PC via Steam, on October 15. No release date has been announced.

The title is a spin-off of JDM: Japanese Drift Master. It is set in the otherworld version of the fictional Guntama Prefecture from the earlier game, a place described as isolated from the living world, corrupted by evil magic and inhabited by various yokai. Players drive a JDM machine across the open world toward a final battle against a demon king. Yokai enemies attack in groups in the streets and are mowed down with the car, while a released trailer shows red crystal-like objects on the roads being destroyed by driving into them.

A supernatural power called Hakai and an element of earning a Hakai score are part of the game. Players can obtain new cars and parts and customize their car to improve performance and combat ability.

The single-player campaign tells its story through manga-style cutscenes and a conversation system, as in JDM: Japanese Drift Master. A multiplayer mode is also planned, with details to be announced later. The game can be enjoyed without playing the previous title, but contains Easter eggs and homages for fans, according to Automaton Media.

The project was originally planned as an expansion pack for JDM: Japanese Drift Master before becoming a spin-off during development, and later grew into a larger project.
