Konami Plans Emergency Yu-Gi-Oh Ban List With 34 New Forbidden Cards
Konami will reveal the emergency Forbidden & Limited update in five parts at YCS Houston, ahead of the Magnificent Maestros set's November 13 launch.
Konami has announced an emergency update to the Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden & Limited list, adding 34 newly Forbidden cards and 8 Limited cards. The full list will be revealed in five parts at Yu-Gi-Oh Championship Series Houston: one part on Friday, two each on Saturday and Sunday.
Konami says the update is intended to prepare for the Magnificent Maestros set, the holiday release scheduled to launch on November 13. The specific cards being banned or limited have not yet been revealed.
Magnificent Maestros features re-imagined cards based on characters from the TV series, including Seto Kaiba, Zane Truesdale, Jack Atlas, Kite Tenjo, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri and Varis.
Background
The announcement follows a period in which players were unhappy with the advanced format, and attendance at regional tournaments has been falling, according to GamesRadar. The previous ban list did very little to adjust the troubled meta, and alternate Yu-Gi-Oh formats such as Genesys have recently grown in popularity as players move away from advanced format.
GamesRadar also notes that Yu-Gi-Oh has struggled to balance first-turn advantage, archetype power creep and one-turn games for a while.
