ME3Tweaks to Restore Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer for Legendary Edition on November 7

The fan project adds upgraded textures, HDR support, controller functionality and a new Unified mode mixing factions in one match.

The ME3Tweaks modding team is preparing to release a restoration of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on November 7, according to gamerant.com. The project has reportedly been in development for three years.

The mod includes upgraded textures, lighting and shaders, HDR support, native controller functionality and a redesigned interface. The team said it has worked to improve networking and fix bugs, and has made the multiplayer more compatible with future mods.

A new mode called Unified lets players fight enemies from multiple factions in the same match. Players can play online through ME3Tweaks' proprietary servers or set up their own private servers.

Why the mode was missing

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition brought BioWare's original trilogy to modern platforms in 2021. When it launched, BioWare chose not to include the Mass Effect 3 co-op multiplayer mode, citing the work needed to restore its online infrastructure and complications with ME3's progression systems. Players who wanted the full multiplayer experience had to return to the original 2012 release.

ME3Tweaks previously restored the Pinnacle Station DLC that was excluded from the first game's remaster. A separate modder, PayDay, has already released a playable multiplayer restoration for Legendary Edition. On October 21, EA announced that BioWare is closing and development on the next Mass Effect game has been canceled.
