Minecraft to Add First New Dimension Since 2011 in 2027
Mojang announced the Sift dimension from Minecraft Dungeons 2 will come to Minecraft in 2027, plus ice caves, a Switch 2 launch, and a theme park.
Mojang held a Minecraft Live showcase following layoffs and studio reshuffling at Xbox, and used the event to outline a packed slate of updates for Minecraft.
The biggest reveal: the Sift, a dimension first seen in Minecraft Dungeons 2, will be added to Minecraft in 2027. It marks the first new dimension in the game since Minecraft reached 1.0 in 2011, joining the existing Overworld, Nether, and End. The Sift will arrive in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition.
Before that, the next game drop will introduce ice caves as a new underground biome, complete with a Frozen Zombie mob and ice crystals. More Sound Effects packs are also set for the Minecraft Marketplace by the end of the year, alongside a Wilderness Bound community challenge and a tease for a creator platform.
Minecraft Dungeons 2, the Diablo-like action-RPG spin-off, launches on September 29. Minecraft itself comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. And in 2027, Chessington World of Adventures' Minecraft World theme park will open with a coaster called Escape the Nether and a Minecraft-themed hotel.
Polygon covered the showcase, which balanced new content announcements with the broader changes at Xbox.
