Modern Warfare 4 Double XP Tokens Now Count Down Only In-Match
Activision says double XP tokens in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will tick down only while you're in a match, not in real time. Existing tokens from older titles and Warzone will work.
Activision has confirmed that double XP tokens in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will count down only while a player is actively in a match. The change was announced on the official Call of Duty X account.
Previously, activating a token started the countdown immediately, so time spent idle or building loadouts ate into the boost. Under the new system, the timer pauses outside of matches.
Existing double XP tokens from previous Call of Duty titles or Warzone will be usable in Modern Warfare 4, according to the announcement.
The shift differs from Battlefield, which still uses real-time countdowns for its double XP tokens. Battlefield Studios had sent an in-game message promising to change tokens to count down in-match, then said it was an error, twice.
Since Modern Warfare 4's reveal, Activision has offered a pre-order loyalty discount, introduced a skin toggle in Warzone, and shared developer updates about matchmaking. The game releases on 23rd October for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.
