Nintendo Apologizes as Zelda 40th Anniversary Items Sell Out Early

Nintendo of Latin America's Bill van Zyll said the company is working to replenish anniversary products but gave no restock dates.

Nintendo has apologized to customers who were unable to buy The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary products after the items sold out faster than expected. Bill van Zyll, Nintendo's vice president and general manager for Latin America, made the apology in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, according to screenrant.com.

Van Zyll said Nintendo is working to replenish the anniversary products, but he did not give restock dates or quantities.

The sold-out items included the Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 40th Anniversary Edition, two anniversary Pro Controller versions, a Switch 2 carrying case with screen protector, and pre-orders for the Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures.

The anniversary edition Nintendo Switch 2 and its matching accessories are scheduled to launch on October 29. The enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on November 5.

Shortages began at announcement

Nintendo announced its Zelda 40th anniversary plans on September 8 and 9, 2026. On September 9, sources reported that several anniversary products were already sold out on Nintendo's US online store, and Australia's store ran out of pre-orders for the anniversary console and Pro Controller. On September 12, Nintendo's UK store page said restock announcements would come through the Nintendo Store app.
