Oboro Muramasa: Kaikitan set for February 4, 2027 release
A developer interview details expanded combat, new quality-of-life features and redrawn hot springs for the enhanced version of the 2009 action game.
Vanillaware is developing and Marvelous will publish Oboro Muramasa: Kaikitan, a new version of the action game, for release on February 4, 2027, according to an interview with the development team reported by news.denfaminicogamer.jp.
The title bundles the original Oboro Muramasa with its Genroku Kaikitan downloadable content and rebuilds both with high-resolution graphics. Combat and exploration are expanded: special attacks can be equipped and removed, and players can move freely along the roads.
The team also described a set of convenience features, including automatic item selling, event scene skipping, a backlog viewer, a retry option and the ability to save anywhere.
Backgrounds for each hot spring area have been drawn separately, and each spring has different effects. New dishes are being added to tea houses, soba shops and kappo restaurants, and the textures and animations for existing dishes have been reworked, with the food design handled by Shigatake.
Oboro Muramasa was released for the Wii in 2009 and later ported to the PS Vita. Vanillaware developed the original and Marvelous handled sales; the producer said he worked on the PS Vita version as part of the promotion team, while the director was involved with the original as a planner when he was a newcomer to the company.
