Oboro Muramasa: Kaikitann launches February 4, 2027
Marvelous will release the renewed action RPG on PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC; the Steam version follows on February 5.
Marvelous has announced that Oboro Muramasa: Kaikitann, a renewal of the action RPG Oboro Muramasa, will launch on February 4, 2027, for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, according to Automaton Media. The Steam version is set to arrive on February 5.
The standard edition, available both physically and as a download, is priced at 6,578 yen including tax on all platforms. A limited special edition bundling multiple bonuses costs 8,778 yen including tax, while a digital deluxe edition is priced at 7,678 yen including tax.
The title updates the original with high-resolution graphics for characters and backgrounds, improvements to the game system, a reworked map structure and new elements. The four character episodes known as Genroku Kaikitann, originally released as PS Vita DLC, are included in advance. A pure HD remaster based on the PS Vita version is also included as Classic Mode.
Among the adjustments, a shortcut feature from the PS Vita DLC's third installment, Shirohebi, has been carried over with relaxed unlock conditions, allowing the two main characters to use it in the main story. The palanquin transport now functions as a de facto fast-travel system, letting players travel to any location where they hold a map, and secret arts can be freely reassigned, with three slots each for ground and air.
In an interview, Vanillaware representative George Kamitani proposed making all 16 hot spring backgrounds distinct. The original Oboro Muramasa was released for Wii in 2009 and for PS Vita in 2013, with Vanillaware developing both versions.
