Ohlen defends Dragon Age: The Veilguard developers over fan complaints
The BioWare veteran says most staff on a team that size had little say in the parts players disliked, and offers referrals for laid-off colleagues.
James Ohlen, the BioWare veteran who served as creative director on Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, posted a follow-up tweet defending the developers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, according to gamesradar.com. In the post, Ohlen argued that the majority of people on a team the size of The Veilguard's had little or no say in the aspects of the game that players disliked.
Ohlen also said that BioWare still had many people who worked on earlier games the fans loved right up to the end.
The defense follows a separate tweet from Ohlen earlier this week, in which he offered referrals for former BioWare staff who lost their jobs, asking hiring studios to start with them.
In October 2025, parent company Electronic Arts shut down BioWare. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the studio's most recent release, received strong reviews from critics. Ohlen had also been responsible for controversial content in Dragon Age Origins, including the Broodmothers and same-sex romance options for Zevran.
