Blizzard Plans 10 New Overwatch Heroes in 2026
Blizzard will release 10 heroes for Overwatch in 2026, up from its usual three per year, starting with vampire support Doctrine on Oct. 6.
Blizzard Entertainment plans to release 10 heroes for Overwatch in 2026, a sharp increase from the roughly three per year the game has averaged. The studio said it intends to keep seasonal hero releases going.
The next season launches Oct. 6 and adds Doctrine, the vampire-inspired support hero revealed at BlizzCon 2026. Blizzard also teased a still-mysterious Omnic detective as the 10th hero, and will hold another Spotlight showcase in February.
The faster cadence follows a major February shake-up, when Blizzard released five new heroes at once and dropped the 2 from the title. Overwatch concurrent player counts on Steam more than doubled after those changes, according to polygon.com.
By the end of 2026, Overwatch will have a playable roster of 55 heroes. If the seasonal cadence continues, that could reach 60 in 2027. The game launched with 21 heroes.
