Analysts Warn PlayStation 6 Could Cost Up to $1000

Industry consultant Dr. Serkan Toto and researcher Joost van Dreunen both suggest the next Sony console could hit four figures, drawing gamer backlash.

Industry analysts have said the PlayStation 6 could cost as much as $1000, according to screenrant.com. The discussion was led by industry consultant Dr. Serkan Toto, who said the next Sony console could carry a price tag upwards of that figure, and industry researcher Joost van Dreunen, who agreed that a $1000 console could become the norm.

Van Dreunen also predicted that the next generation of console hardware will start at a price point 50% higher than the current generation did. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella said $1000 pricing is possible but added that he would hate to see it.

The PlayStation 6 is rumored to launch as early as 2027. The discussion comes as current-generation hardware has already seen significant price increases: the PlayStation 5 Pro costs $899.99 after the most recent hike, while the base PlayStation 5 now costs $599.99, $200 more than at launch.

Pricing policy in focus

In June this year, Sony said in an investor Q&A that as a principle it does not intend to sell hardware at significant losses and that it is monitoring the market on pricing. The PlayStation 5 launched in 2025 at $399.99 before later price increases.

The analysts' comments prompted backlash from gamers, though the figures remain projections and Sony has not announced a price for the PlayStation 6.
