PS5 Pro Sells Out as GTA 6 Demand Drives Console Rush
PlayStation 5 Pro is out of stock on Sony.com and reselling above $1,100 as GTA 6 demand fuels a console shortage, according to CNET.
PlayStation 5 Pro consoles are out of stock on Sony.com and are reselling for more than $1,100 on auction sites, with strong demand ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6 cited as a factor in the shortage, according to CNET. Sony did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.
Grand Theft Auto 6, the long-awaited sequel to Grand Theft Auto 5, is scheduled to launch on November 19 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as Xbox Series X/S. It is available for preorder at $80.
The shortage follows warnings from September in which Sony reportedly advised distributors that PlayStation 5 Pro would be in short supply until 2027, citing temporary market supply constraints and high demand.
The PlayStation 5 Pro debuted in November 2024 for $700. Its retail price has since increased to $900.
