PS5SX2 Mod Brings PS2 Disc Play and 4K Upscaling to Jailbroken PS5
Modder Sword's PS5SX2 is a native PCSX2 port that reads PS2 discs from all regions via USB optical drives and scales up to 6X for 4K output.
Modder Sword has released PS5SX2, a native port of the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator built to run on jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, according to Tom's Hardware. The port is adapted to the PS5's Zen 2 chip rather than streamed from a host system.
PS5SX2 reads physical PlayStation 2 game discs from all regions through built-in or external USB optical drives. It supports the ISO, CHD, CSO and ZSO disc image formats, but cannot read PlayStation 2 games that shipped on CDs.
The emulator offers up to 6X resolution scaling for up to 4K output and supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution along with PCSX2 .pnach patches. Settings can be adjusted remotely from a smartphone or tablet, and an emulated PlayStation 2 network adapter enables online play.
Additional features include keyboard and mouse input, four-player couch co-op, and virtual memory cards of up to 64MB per game.
PlayStation 3 disc support in development
Developer Sword confirmed that PlayStation 3 disc support is coming in an RPCS3 port under development for the PlayStation 5. Sony has previously implemented backward compatibility on the PS5 for physical and digital PlayStation 4 games; earlier PS2 emulation hacks ran PCSX2 on a host system and streamed the image to the television.
