Leak: PS6 Memory Alone Costs Over $680
Leaker Kepler_L2 estimates the PS6's RAM and NAND at more than $680, while Sony weighs a 2028 or 2029 launch amid memory shortages.
A tech leaker estimates that the PlayStation 6's RAM and NAND memory alone currently cost more than $680, according to a report from Polygon. The same source, Kepler_L2, puts the PS6's overall bill of materials roughly $200 below that of Microsoft's next Xbox, codenamed Project Helix.
The PS6 is estimated to cost around $1,000. Reports state that Microsoft projects Project Helix's price between $1,200 and $1,800.
Sony has said it has not set a release date for the PS6, citing memory shortages. The company is reportedly looking at 2028 or 2029 as possible release dates.
Until recently, a November 2027 release had seemed likely. The PS5 launched nearly six years before the article's publication, and seven years is a typical console generation lifespan, though the longest gaps have run to eight years, between the Switch and Switch 2 and between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The current console cycle has also seen prices hold or rise: the PS5 costs more now than at launch, and the PS5 Pro has reached $900. In May 2026, Sony told investors it was considering changing business models for its next console.
